What is it?

  Belkyra is the first approved drug for the treatment of unwanted fat under the chin in the form of a double chin. The treatment destroys the fat cells under the chin and often gives a more marked profile.

How is done?

​

  Belkyra contains the active ingredient deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is naturally produced in the body to facilitate the breakdown of fat. The injection treatment takes between 15-20 minutes and involves no surgery.

​

  The treater injects small amounts of the drug at several sites in the area to be treated. How much Belkyra you get and how many treatments are needed depends on how much fat there is under your chin.

How does it look in the end?

​

  As with other injection treatments, you may experience side effects from Belkyra. Immediately after treatment, you may experience pain, swelling / fluid accumulation, bruising or reduced sensation under the chin.

These side effects are usually temporary and go away on their own. The side effects are usually worst after the first treatment, and become less and less after each treatment.

How long does it last?

​

The interval between each treatment should always be at least 4 weeks. Once the desired result is achieved, no further treatment is usually required.

Aftercare Instructions?

​

  There is essentially zero downtime with the non-invasive Belkyra procedure.

Contraindications?

​

  Belkyra is not suitable for women who are pregnant or lactating, or for people who have previously experienced an allergic reaction to the drug or its ingredients.

Side effects?

​

  You may experience temporary side effects that include bruising, pain, and infection, and in a few instances, short-term paralysis of unintended muscles. Serious side effects are rare, but can include damage to the skin and nerves.

Refill/Touch Up?

​

  Most people who are treated experience a visible improvement in the chin profile after two to four treatments. For some, up to six treatments are required to achieve optimal results.
